Kalupahana

Visit Bambarakanda waterfall

If you two love adventures and need to spend few hours enjoying nature, visit Bambarakanda. If you're from Colombo, take a Badulla (99) bus from pettah. Get down from "Kalupahana" junction. Bus fair won't exceed Rs400. Take a three wheeler from there to Bambarakanda. Cost would be Ra.400, so from Bambarakanda to Kalupahana and back to the bus holt would be Rs800. There will be few stairs to climb and  you'll be blessed with the highest waterfall of Sri Lanka. Place is deserted but it's not dangerous. There will be few visitors if you visit it on a weekend.  There's a trail to climb to the top of the waterfall and towards another waterfall called "Lanka Ella" which is a breathtaking waterfall with a natural pool, but don't visit it if you're alone and if you're not familiar with the place.

There's a small tea shop facing the waterfall. You can sit on a wooden bench in their hut and enjoy a hot rotti with a spicy lunu miris while having a hot coffee and a smoke while enjoying the view of beautiful waterfall and mountain range covered in mist,Bill will be around Rs200. After a cold and tiring climb it feels heavenly. Owner of that small shop is really friendly and helpful

This is where we had our lunch. Top of the Bambarakanda waterfall.. Don't forget to take your garbage with you if you visit here.

River Garden Resort-Belihuloya

On our way home we visit the River garden hotel. Located at Belihuloya. It's a decent place and there are few huts facing the river. Best place to spend the evening. We ordered tea, coffee, club sandwiches and some cheese and tomato sandwiches. Portion sizes were large. We were already full and we couldn't finish it. Sandwiches comes with hot French fries. Total bill was Rs1200 or 1100. We will visit this place again

Our first date

This blog was created to share our dining experiences from the day we started dating. Hope it'll help others to find best, affordable places to hangout, eat or have a hot drink with your lover and have a good time together. It's difficult for us to find good places which are welcoming but won't empty our wallets when we pay the bill. Some of these places we visited were cheap and affordable but food in few places were expensive.

1 Barista- Bambalapitiya

I met my boyfriend at Facebook. We chatted, talked for few weeks and decided to have a quick meeting. I thought a coffee shop would be good. Both of us are coffee lovers. I picked the place. Bambalapitiya Barista is a nice small place, reason for choosing it was the convenient location. however it's bit crowded during the weekend and Pizza Hut next to it always packed and noisy. It might not be the ideal place to spend few hours. Chairs aren't that comfortable either. However it's a good place to have a cup of coffee or a mocktail after  shopping or a movie at Majestic city.

Cost for two would be around Rs1000-1500. Even though we love coffee , he ordered a hot chocolate and I ordered a peach flavored iced tea. Drinks were delicious. Service wasn't bad either. My boyfriend (his name is Manoj by the way) commented the hot chocolate was really nice. There are cakes, muffins and few savory stuff, but I was too excited that day and didn't order anything. I've tried their blueberry muffin before, and the cappuccino. Both were average.  I'll update this if we visit Barista again.

2 The Barnesbury - Barnes Pl Colombo

Our second date was at Barnesbury. It was my first visit there. Place was nice however I was disappointed as soon as I entered. We have contacted them earlier to make a reservation for two, but when we told them about the reservation they looked bit surprised and directed us to a family table. Then I received a wrong drinks order but nothing could go wrong with orange juice. So I'm not complaining about it. We ordered one mutton kottu and one prawns kottu. Each between Rs700-750. First few bites were heavenly. It was delicious. With a creamy cheese dressing on top, and there were plenty of nicely cooked meat chunks and prawns. However within few minutes we stated feeling full and bloated, like we already ate two submarines and a Big Mac. Bill was around Rs3000 for four drinks and two meals

3 Tea Avenue - Barnes Pl Colombo

This was one place we loved. We only ordered drinks. However we would gladly visit that place again.  I ordered a chai latte and he ordered an iced cappuccino. Latte was huge and delicious,so was the cappuccino. Bill was Rs 1000 but it was worth it. It's a welcoming place with less noise and comfortable chairs and the one waiter was so helpful , he said there is an "angle" seat if we want.lol. I saw how they make their famous Ferraro lavish (Rs850) and I would definitely go back to try that.
